LUNA LOVER

“Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous to be understood. How grass can be nourishing in the mouths of the lambs. How rivers and stones are forever in allegiance with gravity while we ourselves dream of rising.” —Mary Oliver pic.twitter.com/D1MVHN1gtz — Poetic Outlaws (@OutlawsPoetic) June 17, 2024 “Poetry, the best of it, is lunar and is concerned with the essential insanities. Journalism is solar (there are numerous newspapers named The Sun, none called The Moon) and is devoted to the inessential.” —Tom Robbins pic.twitter.com/jFfTZXoqAB — Poetic Outlaws (@OutlawsPoetic) June 18, 2024

In her diary entry from the winter of   1949-1950,  found in   The Diary of AnaΓ―s Nin, Vol. 5: 1947-1955 ( public library ) which gave us Nin’s whimsical antidote to city life   and her poignant meditation on   character, parenting, and personal responsibility ,  AnaΓ―s   observes   (From " The Marginalian ") "Educators do all in their power to prepare you to enjoy reading after college. It is right that you should read according to your temperament, occupations, hobbies, and vocations.  But it is a sign of great inner insecurity to be hostile to the unfamiliar, unwilling to explore the unfamiliar.  In science, we respect the research worker.  In literature, we should not always read the books blessed by the majority. This trend is reflected in such absurd announcements as “the death of the novel,” “the last of the romantics,” “the last of the Bohemians,” when we know that these are continuous trends which evolve and merely change ...

Visualizing AnaΓ―s Nin’s and Henry Miller’s relationships by Sky Blue Press Editor on April 11, 2018 The 1930s was a volatile decade for AnaΓ―s Nin. At its dawn, she was a sheltered housewife and aspiring writer with nearly no grand life experiences. At its end, she was the author of three highly-regarded Paris publications (D. H. Lawrence: An Unprofessional Study; The House of Incest; The Winter of Artifice), and the lover of many men, including Henry Miller, Gonzalo More, Otto Rank, RenΓ© Allendy, and her own father, JoaquΓn Nin. Arguably, it was her meeting of Henry Miller in late 1931 that served as the catalyst for much of her transformation as a woman and as an artist. But as the decade wore on, some of the relationships died while others bloomed; hers with Miller persisted, but by 1937 Nin was becoming increasingly aware of stark contrast in their relationships with others, and with each other. Nin became annoyed with Miller’s friends, some of whom she called “white...

Discern, Depth, Choose Passion

"By lover, I don’t mean merely an intimate partner or a sexual dalliance. By lover, I mean a person who ravishes your entire being—mind, body, heart and soul. By lover, I mean the person who takes your breath away and breathes life into your dreams. By lover, I mean the person whose body fits yours like a glove and in whose eyes you see eternity. By lover, I mean the person who captures your attention and captivates your being. You see, it is easy to choose a physical lover—as the commercial reminds us, there’s an app for that. You can swipe your way to a booked social calendar and still live with an empty heart. Many view the quest for love as a numbers game the more exposures you have to potential partners, the better your chances. While I see the rationale behind that, I believe that is far too simple. To choose a lover like the one above is not a numbers game. It is birthed from a deep and raw place within the soul—a place where many of us rarely...
